Veneers

Porcelain veneers refer to ultra-thin, custom-made coverings of tooth-colored material that are bonded to the front surface of your teeth to improve their appearance and enhance your smile by changing their color, size, shape, or length. Patients in Lakewood, OH with discolored, chipped, or worn down teeth can visit CLE Smiles by Dr. Niki for treatment using porcelain veneers.

What dental problems can be corrected with porcelain veneers?

Dental veneers are routinely used to fix:

  • Severely discolored teeth due to large resin fillings, root canal treatment, or staining from excessive fluoride, drugs, and other causes.
  • Worn down, chipped or broken teeth
  • Crooked teeth
  • Gaps between teeth

These problems can also be fixed using crowns or caps. But unlike crowns that cover the entire tooth and require a significant amount of tooth enamel to be removed, dental veneers are placed over the front (visible) part of the tooth or teeth in a simple, comfortable procedure that only takes a couple of visits with Dr. Nicole Cochran.

What to expect

If you’re a suitable candidate for dental veneers, they can be applied in only two visits. On your first visit, Dr. Cochran will prepare for veneer placement by finding the veneers that best match the shade of your teeth, or the desired whiteness if you want to treat stained teeth. She will also remove 0.3 to 0.5 mm of your tooth structure to allow enough room to place the veneers so they don’t appear larger than your other teeth. Afterwards, she will take an impression of your teeth and send it to the lab to create your custom porcelain veneers.

On your second visit, the prepared teeth will be cleaned and the permanent veneers bonded directly using a special dental cement. The cement will be hardened using a curing light, making the treatment permanent. The veneer will then be polished to give them a natural look to match your other teeth.

Caring for your new smile

After your treatment, Dr. Cochran will discuss with you how to take care of your teeth and mouth to maintain a white, healthy smile.

Porcelain veneers give you a natural look and feel because of their light reflecting properties. They’re also resistant to stains.
